PhotoShop-d > Kimberly Teichrow  > Portfolio > My Lessons in Photoshop
Post Photosho World 2008, I'm finding I'm having a long of fun testing out images, and developing a style, for better or worse, in image enhancement. Here are some trials and errors. While I come from a graphic design background, my recent challenges have been how to use Photoshop for photography, rather than design. I'm finding it takes some time to develop an artistic eye purely for photography, without design elements. I'm sure this is a bit elementary for some... but I'm happy with my progress!

Kimberly Teichrow > Before: This cutie pie had so much fun hanging out at the window. It made for some high contrast with his head turned towards me, when he was so close to the window. I JUST heard about luminosity masks (search Luminosity Mask and Kuyper, and you'll get an AWESOME tutorial). The result follows.
Kimberly Teichrow > Less contrasty, yet still with dimension... I'm still learning, though... what do you think? This actually took seconds to achieve.
Kimberly Teichrow > Burnt Forest – Before
I thought these images were so uninspiring after reviewing them at home. I love the area, and how dramatic the black trunks in contrast with the burnt orange needles, and blue sky. and was very disappointed once I got home in front of the computer. I revisited them after Photoshop World... I thought I'd play a bit to see what could be done.
Kimberly Teichrow > Burnt Forest – After
Yeah! Photoshop World! This is much closer to the vision I had when I set out with my camera.

Kimberly Teichrow > The Cummings – After. I was happy with the corrections for the most part. As with anything, I could have spent another hour or so fine tuning... but was generally happy with the changes as is.
Kimberly Teichrow > Portrait of Xavier - Before. A nice shot of this handsome young man, but a bit dull.
Kimberly Teichrow > Portrait of Xavier - After. I played a bit with a new Color Efex Pro filter from Nik Software. I used the skylight filter, as well as a bit of manual vignette (levels adjustments with a mask). I wasn't going to worry about the blown out shoulder... I was just happy with the overall effect.
Kimberly Teichrow > Portrait of Max - Before. Yes, lovely brown Bend.
